Progress

There have been many different things going on this summer, but I have neglected to write about them. I always have ambitions to get this house straight in the summer, but something always keeps me from it. This year, I have actually gotten a few things done. The living room was the first thing to get into gear, quite by accident. Adam and Vicky agreed to take out an old chest that I had, and then offered to take out the old piano, so I quickly took the stuff off of the piano and moved it out from the wall. They came and took it out of the house! Finally, I have enough space in which to move around in the living room. I can't believe it! Of course, there is still a lot of stuff now in the dining room that has to be moved, but that will happen eventually. This week, I have been working in this bedroom where I have the computer. It was Rachel's bedroom, and it has become 'one' of the storage rooms for everything imaginable. Also, the cat that I had used a space in it for his own personal litter box. The carpet was a mess in one spot. I worked for three days getting things moved around and cleaned up in here. After I figured out what was really in here, I could work around it. I got the two closets cleaned out, and that was a chore. Next, the carpet had to be removed. Yesterday, I got the notion to pull up the entire carpet by myself. I borrowed a carpet cutter from Don and started. Right off the bat, I broke the blade! So, I used the tip end of the cutter to do to the whole room! Right as I was finishing the last section of the room, Adam and Vicky came in. "Who did this?" Adam asked. "I DID!", was my response. I told him about breaking the blade, and he pulled another one right out of the cutter! Apparently, there were spare blades inside. Well, that job would have been so much easier if I had realized there were extra blades, because they are much sharper than the tip end. (Come to think of it, I believe Don told me about that when he was showing me how to put the blades in, but I forgot. Oh well.) Anyway, Adam put a new blade on , and I did the last part of the room, the closet. There were no accidents until the last section, when two plastic underbed boxes fell on top of my head! They were both empty, so it wasn't too bad. I was moving the big metal shelf that they were on, and down they came. I had just put them up there before I started, too. GEE!! I left all of the tack boards, as I just didn't have the energy or the strength to pull them up. I have six gigantic, construction bags full of carpet outside. I did the job in pieces, and that made it much easier. I had to move things as I went, so I think I did a pretty good job. I am a bit sore today, but not as bad as I thought I would be. There is still much to do around here, and I hope that I can get to it all this summer. I still have to write my dissertation, too. I have been neglecting the house due to my studies for the last umpteen years, and now I need to get things done around here. My hands are hurting from all the pulling and tugging, but I guess they will be okay. I do have a little bruise on my forehead from the boxes, but it will be okay, too. After I get home from New Jersey, I will be at it again. This time, I will be cleaning in the dining room where so many things have ended up in piles! You can't even tell that I have an actual table in there, because of all of the stuff on top of it! I will try not to stay away so long from my writing. Hopefully, I will have more time to update my progress. Keep cool and have a great day!
